Was Mars rover a waste of money?

I believe the missions to Mars are a complete waste of time and money. Sorry, but billions of earthpeople are suffering on with so many tragedies, wars, hurricanes, earthquakes, tsunami/tidal waves, financial problems, unemployment, famines, droughts, floods, and other huge problems, including the rise of slavery, and the Greenhouse effect: and someone decides to spend huge amounts of money, to put a little rover on mars? My sister would say: "well, really".

The missions to Mars are not a waste of money. It's hard to look at something as extraordinarily beautiful as space and not want to take a look at what's out there.

In order to explain how we as humans got here, we can look at how other planets got here as well. By taking soil samples, scientists can conclude whether or not Martian dirt is capable of growing crops, which, as scientific advance occurs, could have implications on how we on Earth grow crops more efficiently, and determining whether or not Mars had/has water has implications on how we can find underground water on Earth.

Not to mention that a Mars rover has absolutely nothing to do with wars, hurricanes, earthquakes, tsunami/tidal waves, financial problems, unemployment, famines, floods, and other huge problems, including the rise of slavery, and the Greenhouse effect. This part of her argument was a non sequitur.

And any scientist would say, "We put that rover there because IT'S FREAKING AMAZING. We put a robot on a rocket, steered it for 8 months, and landed it in a crater ON MARS."
