There is skeptism to whether the young general was truly a coward. Some say that his soldiers did his actions for him and that he really had no true authority in combat nor partook in much of the fighting. - Actually, Napoleon was always on the battlefield, but he was never exactly the first person to attack. He was some distance near the front lines of his army, but never the first person like Alexander the great. To contribute to Napoleon's "courageousness", he was also very intelligent in terms of warfare. He had very strategic and planned out battle tactics, and he knew when, where, and how to attack. Napoleon went years without losing a single war (on land). Whether or not he is courageous is more opinionated. *SL
