Pointless question. Color does not matter in Islam so makes no difference who evers father, grandfather etc was black, white, orange or pink

"Pointless question. Color does not matter in Islam so makes no difference who evers father, grandfather etc was black, white, orange or pink"I cant believe that reply, "pointless question" how could u possibly say that, every question has a point and the questioner is seeking an ANSAR and maybe you are to ashamed or ignorant to answer the question. Color may not matter in Islam (subject to debate) but to the people of that times it must have. if they mentioned what tribe so and so was from. Also i have a question what color was Bilal? i bet your quick to say black huh? LOL. Well I personally think this question that was previously post should be answered for i for one would love to know.May peace and blessings be upon those who are on the path of truth and study Al Kutub and are able to understand your fellow Muslims search for knowledgeMa Salam

Yes Mohammad had black lineage in him, that's why Islam later decided to ban his representation in portraits and paintings, and why it's illegal to depict him even today. Mohammad was raised by Jews, and is therefore indirectly Jewish, so Muslims can thank the Jews for their religion, and most of their ideas.

The prophets own definition of an Arab can be described in a hadith related by Ibn Asakir in TarakDimashq:" Being an Arab is not because of your father or mother, but being an Arab is on account of your tongue. Whoever learns Arabic is an Arab."

One of the most foremost authentic biographies about the life of the prophet Muhammad was written by late scholar named Saifur AbdurRahman Mubarakpuri. In chapter one of his biography - The Sealed Nectar - Mubarakpuri traces the linguistic origins of the word 'Arab' according to Mubarakpuri.

"Linguistically, the word "Arab" means deserts and waste barren land well-nigh waterless and treeless. Ever since the dawn of history, the Arabian Peninsula and its people have been called as such." (Mubarakpuri, 2002 pg 23)

On its formation in 1946, the Arab League defined an "Arab" as: "... a person whose language is Arabic, who lives in an Arabic speaking country, who is in sympathy with the aspirations of the Arabic speaking peoples." (Annu, 2007)

Religious, Historical, and Political definitions all agree that what defines an Arab is language and cultural circumstance not race or color. Thus there were many Arabs in the Arabian peninsula who were black just as much as there are many Arabs who are black today. Therefore being Arab does not negate ones being black and vice versa.

Since Arabs can be black and the prophet Muhammad was an Arab then it is possible that the prophet could have been black.

No. While there is a small possibility that Muhammad was of African coloration, it would make much more sense that he was the typical swarthy color that many Saudis have today, especially since he came from a relatively affluent Arabian family. Muhammad would have had so-called Mediterranean coloration. This coloration varies, but includes colors that might be mis-identified with a Southern German at their lightest and may be mis-indentified with Pakistani at their darkest. Nationalities with this type of complexion include most other Arabs, Southern Italians, Southern Spaniards, Turks, and other North Africans. Most of these groups are characterized as "White" by the United States Census Bureau, regardless of how others may see them.
