Contrary to talk show host Glenn Beck's assertions (he was among the first to spread this false accusation), there is not much evidence that she aligned herself with Marxism. Unfortunately, what Beck said was also picked up by some of the president's political enemies, who also claimed (without proof) that she was a "radical leftist and cultural Marxist." However, whether or not one likes the president or agrees with his policies, there is no evidence to support these accusations. What we do know about Stanley Ann Dunham is she loved her son and tried to get him a strong education. We also know she received training as an anthropologist and she had great interest in learning other cultures. None of this makes her a Marxist.
