Sweden had been in many wars prior to the 20th Century. They had adopted a policy of being neutral because the nation was tired of warring and did not want to get involved in any more wars. They did not participate in World War 1 and 2.
They did however have to kick the Nazis out of their nation and ended up taking in fleeing Jews. They did help in other ways even though they were supposed to be neutral. They took in Finns who fled the Germans and Russians.
