WikiAnswers used to be FAQFarm, a Q&A site owned by Chris Whitten. Chris sold FAQFarm to the Answers Corp., and they renamed it WikiAnswers (for the wiki format of Answers.com, where anyone can edit a question and answer).
Answers Corp. acquired WikiAnswers (named FAQFarm at the time) on November 2, 2006.
Yahoo! Answers was released to the public in December 2005. A site called FAQFarm was founded in 2002. This FAQFarm eventually evolved into WikiAnswers, so WikiAnswers is technically older than Yahoo! Answers.
So that it would better reflect the name of the parent company Answers Corp. Personally, WikiAnswers sounds better than FAQfarm.
This must be a very old question. WikiAnswers evolved from FaqFarm (growing answers) which had a farm-related theme.
The answer to these types of questions is usually historical and that is the case here as well. WikiAnswers (originally started as faqfarm) started with a an early version of code and as time went on the code was modified to support the many features that are unique to the Q&A domain and the site. The site is constantly being improved as so is the codebase to support the growth of WikiAnswers.
If you are referring to technical matters, such as an IT administrator, there are a number of individuals working in engineering to keep the site running smoothly. The WikiAnswers Community Administrators (now termed Coordinators) are Matthew (username Brave3) and Crystal (username Crystal).
Chris Whitten is the creator of WikiAnswers. He spent 2007 as the WikiAnswers Director for Answers.com after the site became part of Answers Corp. Chris is currently the webmaster of a new site he is creating called WikiTree.com.
It's available here: http://www.RetrieveALover.com/?hop=faqfarm It costs $47.
I asked a question on Google and the site came up. It was FAQFarm at the time, but I became a Super very soon after that.
The WikiAnswers legal department is looking into Wikianswers.
Anyone can use WikiAnswers that knows about WikiAnswers.
