The jaguar is often described as nocturnal; but is more specifically crepuscular which means that its peak activity is around dawn and dusk but not all night long.

It rests most of the day and night.

Saber tooth cats probably hunted most successfully during daylight because their prey would be more vulnerable to attack while on the move. At night their prey would consolidate.
