Yes, there have been instances of senators or representatives being assassinated in American history. For example, in 1868, Congressman James Hinds was assassinated in Arkansas during the Reconstruction era, and in 1954, Senator Herbert O'Conor died of natural causes but was targeted in an assassination attempt in Maryland. These are just two examples, but there have been other incidents throughout the country's history.
