G.W.F. Hegel (1770-1831) was a German ideologue, and Romance era philosopher. "Lordship & Bondage" was his classic analysis of illegitimate authority. It is an examination of human conciousness from it's most primitive stage (master/slave) toward the realization of its affinity with the absolute.

He is best known for his dialectical method in which reality is understood as the historical realization of the Absolute. Kierkegaard was his most persistent, and profound Christian critic. Realism is a later development in philosophy, and is more, or less concurrent with Existentialism.
