The last well-known cavalry that was sent out during WWII was when the Polish charged the German tanks in the first year the Second World War started. The whole cavalry was pretty much wiped out. Horses then were only used in very small numbers to transport materials and units to areas where machines couldn't or wouldn't go. This in itself was rare, as many roads and bridges were built for trucks, tanks jeeps to go on to transport goods from one front to another.
