Most likely as the human race is believed to have originated somewhere in Africa. The closer to the equator the human race lives the more melanin their skin produced to protect against the UV rays of the Sun meaning black skin. As humans migrated north less melanin was needed for protection of the Sun's rays and humans took on lighter skin tones.
The first humans were likely dark-skinned, but the specific skin color of the very first humans is not definitively known.
You cannot get black, but are born that color or not. People can have very dark skin color, just as people can have very light and pale skin color; humans range in various shades and tones.
