Was it bad to add 10W-40 oil to my 1996 Toyota 4-runner instead of 5W-30?

10W-40 is a good oil for winter season, but you can use it in summertime. 5W-30 is better for lower temperatures, you should not use it during summertime. Mixing the two oils is not recommended especilly if they are not the same kind and same manufacturer. however i do not think it is a bad maneuver.
