I was there, and in my particular instance there was no shortage, we were supplied plenty of bottled water, however, when traveling, or on assignment your carryout load would include one container of water, more was sent along to your forward location in trucks. Everyone knew we were in the desert and water was a necessity, and from my personal experience there was no lack of supplies.

What were southern soldier's uniforms like during the civil war?

The ideal Confederate uniform was either a beechnut brown, or grey. It looked similer to the Union uniform, though adapted to Rebel classifications. Many soldiers did not own real uniforms, as the Confederate government was unable to supply all of its soldiers with complete uniforms. Many soldiers just wore their own clothes. Some took the uniforms of dead Rebel soldiers, after a battle or skirmish, for their own use. This was common especially when one was in need of shoes, as many soldiers had to go barefoot as the War progressed.

Why was it difficult to find and keep the soldiers in the Continental Army?

The congress demanded that every colony supply soldiers. Those with money payed others like slaves or apprentice's to fight in their place. Most of the soldiers were farmers and wanted to go back home in spring to plant crops and fall to harvest crops.

Why were soldiers deserting the Continental Army?

Life as a soldier in the Continental Army was tough...the soldiers of the Continental Army were primarily farmers who had no prior experience in warfare. America lacked the funding to supply the soldiers with basic needs such as shirts, jackets, socks, shoes, and food. In especially tough times like at Valley Forge, more soldiers left because of the raging cold and lack of supplies.

When do solders become veterans?

The dictionary has several definitions for "Veteran" from (1) an old soldier of long service to (2) a former member of the armed forces. My opinion is a Veteran is a former soldiers who was in combat or in times of war. Of course many people who serve in the military do not to to war or even support the combat troops such as supply. Many soldiers served the country during peace time. They are considered veterans and have right to all the benefits the government provides, such as medical care and college GI Bill. When? I guess the day the soldier is honorably discharged from service.

Who could maintain better supply lines in civil war?

The Union, or the North, was able to maintain better supply lines during the Civil War. This was due to the fact that the Union had a larger supply of railroad lines, allowing supplies (such as arms, clothing, food, or soldiers) to be transported to the front more quickly.
