HUM/176Popular culture can have societal value beyond what is offensive, and has in fact had a significant societal value through non-offensive means. For example, many positive forms of music are a part of popular culture. As are wholesome television shows. Although, some pop culture is offensive, it is not the case that all pop culture or even most is offensive. When you view the music industry, Rap music is the most popular genre of music among young people. Most Rap music contains very offensive language, but it does not seem to affect whether or not young people will listen to this music. I do not think that this particular form of music has any type of positive effect on our society. I remember when Rap music first came out, it did not need offensive language in the song to make it popular. Personally, I think this type of music has no place in our society, why do artists have to use such vulgar language in their music?
