∙ 12y agoNo, they met because both Rosa Park and Martin Luther King, Jr. belonged to the Montgomery Chapter of the NAACP.
When Rosa McCauley married Raymond Parks in 1932, Raymond was already a member of the NAACP; in 1943, Rosa joined the organization herself. It's not clear if Rosa knew MLK before her arrest on December 1, 1955 because he did not move to Montgomery until 1954 when he became pastor of the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery. The night of Rosa's arrest, while she was still in jail, a meeting was organized to plan the Montgomery bus boycott. MLK was selected to lead the boycott, to be the public face of the boycott and speak on behalf of the organizations involved in the boycott. There were many other civic leaders working on the boycott Behind the Scenes. It is quite likely that Rosa would not have met Mr. King until she was released from jail, when she became an active supporter of the boycott.
