It certainly was. The waters of the English Channel are notorious for being unpredicatable, and June 6 1944 was much rougher than the weather forecasters had predicted. In fact, the D-Day landings had already been postponed by bad weather, and CHurchill had decided that if they didn't go on June 6 they might never go at all.
