The US Civil War was not intended to be a war to end slavery. That is clear and few would disagree with that statement. The South, however, saw the Union headed by a president who believed that slavery was wrong. Even though Lincoln promised to leave slavery alone where it already existed. For the South however, it believed that sooner or later their culture would have to change if it remained a part of the US. Their view was short sighted, but that's too easy a way to find fault. If there had it not been for slavery, though, the two sides would have not had "two sides".
Because Northern people opposed it, and southern farmers supported it therfore it caused tensions between the North and South which caused the American Civil War
The issue that the North and South fought over was called the Wilmot Proviso. It was basically a law of slavery: the North and South were fighting over slavery. The North were anti-slavery and the South were pro-slavery
It was the issue of human slavery.
The issue of slavery.
It is NOT the "civil war". Slavery was a very minor issue at the start of the war.
The issue of slavery.
Slavery among other things.
No it was not an issue their!
Slavery promoted sectionalism because the south was in favor of slavery and the north was opposed to it. The south didn't want slavery to end. With northerners opposing slavery, disagreements started to rise, which resulted in the south attempting to succeed and the Civil War breaking out.
Slavery was an intractable issue. Most of the people in the North were against it and most were for it the South. This was one of the main reason for the war.
Not really. The main issue was State's Rights. That is, a state's right to govern themselves over the federal government. Slavery was a key issue, but not the sole cause. A series of laws unpopular with southern states caused them to get fed up and secede; starting with South Carolina and many others following suit.
Yes, the civil war was started on the issue of slavery.
