Two points as to why the Battle of Vicksburg was the turning point in the civil war?

Vicksburg was the main river port on the Mississippi River that took in supplies from the western Confederacy, namely cattle from Texas and Arkansas. With the fall of the town these supplies were cut of from the eastern theaters. It also meant that the South would have to rely on sea ports on the Gulf of Mexico and transport supplies overland. The loss of Vicksburg also meant that the Union controlled the Mississippi River which blocked reinforcements from the west aiding the rest of the Confederate armies.
