The French revolution began in 1789 and ended in 1799. The King was Louis XVI, he was executed in 1793.
Because they had openly allied themselves to the cause of the American Revolution after the Battle of Saratoga. French Military assistance before that event had been provided covertly, but in ample measure so as to provide a major victory. The long time French traditional enemy of the United Kingdom had been soundly defeated in the New World.
On July 14, people gather in big cities or in front of the city hall to watch fireworks. This is a vacation day and so, nobody works. Actually, except for the fireworks, the French Revolution is just a great event which occurred a long time ago. This is no longer important for the French to know what happens. On July 14, only the fireworks and the gatherings matter to us (I'm French so...)

As far as I'm aware, The French Revolution was started by the French, not by George Washington, who was and had been the only US President at the time of the French Revolution. Unless the Americans have built a time machine.

The French Revolution wasn't started by a president. At that time (in the 18th century) France was a monarchy (and thus had a King and Queen) and the lower and middle class society started the revolution.
