Indigenous Australians, like those races indigenous to other colonized lands, were rarely taken seriously by those who colonized Australia.

As with similar situations in many other countries, they still aren't taken sufficiently seriously to ensure anywhere near a quality of life and opportunity equal to that of non-indigenous citizens.
