In the late 1700's many improvements were made and keys were added to the clarinet and Iwan Muller came up with a 13 keyed model that stayed in favor into the 1800's In the 1840's Klose and Buffet then adapted the fingering system of the flute to the clarinet to create the instrument we are familiar with today.
