Yes 1979
USSR truly entered the war with the invasion of Russia. They were wasting the time with the Russo-Finnish war.
There are several factors that lead to the end of the Cold War. These include the weakness of USSR's economy, 1979 Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, rivalry between the US & USSR and lastly, US's containment Policy.

Cuban Missile Crisis Korean War Invasion of Afghanistan
A cold winter and a two front war resulted.
No it did not. A couple years after it ended there was the Koreans War, Vietnam War, Iraqi Freedom, Iraqi Invasion of Kuwait and potential Invasion of Saudi Arabia, Russian invasion of Afghanistan(i think. Lits of countries named like that. Not being racist) and Georgia, and Terrorists can be considered a war and Drug Trafficing War.
Okay, I give up. What world war of 1981 or 1980? There have only been two world wars. Are you talking about the attacks by the USSR on Afghanistan? That was not a world war. The Afghans fought a phenomenal war against the USSR (with the secret help of RPGs secured by the US). They won. The USSR military was falling apart and their military personnel were not being paid either. The entire country was falling apart and finally disbanded ten years later.
