What did the doves do during the Vietnam war and what they stood for?

The criticism of the war in Vietnam started out mainly as a conservative reaction to President Johnson’s policy of fighting for a limited purpose, a negotiated peace, rather than all out victory in Vietnam. Those critics included Senator Barry Goldwater, retired military men, and even some extreme members of the John Birch Society. These people were known as “hawks.” As the President escalated the war effort, and became a hawk himself, his chief critics became known as “doves” and included antiwar protesters, college students and faculty, liberal Democrats, and many other people in various walks of life who felt that the war was immoral, dragging on to no benefit for the US, and was causing increased casualty lists to mount. Many believed the US was fighting a war against the wishes of the majority of the Vietnamese people. These critics felt the war was a civil war in Vietnam between north and south and we had no business interfering. Some supported the communist effort in Vietnam and hoped for a defeat of the “imperialist capitalist” United States. Many Americans felt we were fighting a small, unimportant county, while the real enemy was China and the Soviet Union. There were many demonstrations against the war which took the form of sit ins in college and high school campuses, marches both for and against the war, and editorials written for and against the war. One of the most infamous demonstrations took place at Kent State University, 1970, when National Guard troops fired on Kent State students and protesters and four were killed and eleven were wounded.

What was one effect of Tet Offensive?

Quite apart from throwing suspicion upon the competence of U.S. and South Vietnamese leaders to assess North Vietnamese war-making capacity, the Tet Offensive in the Vietnam War had this significant effect: it convinced numerous leaders and observers in the West that the Vietnam War was far from over. With war protests already growing in the United States yet now increasing, the effect of the Tet Offensive, despite that it was a military defeat, amounted to a diplomatic-political "win" for North Vietnam.

What were the events that linked the Boston massacre at the Boston tea party?

They weren't linked. The only thing is they both happened in Boston and were years apart. The Boston Massacre was spun by Paul Revere in hand bills to create distrust between the colonies and the British. The events we think we know for the massacre and the tea party are NOT what really happened. Watch the history channel program on the Boston Massacre in the series unknown history.

Is north Vietnam apart of north Asia?

Actually it is not. Even though the North area of Vietnam is under China and very close to the North Asia as well, the whole country is considered to be in the South-East Asia. Moreover, in 1995, Vietnam became a member of ASEAN which is stand for Association of Southeast Asian Nations, this action indirectly confirmed that Vietnam and North Vietnam also are not in the North of Asia.

Why did the us become invovled in Vietnam?

The USA wanted South Vietnam to be a free and independent nation, separate and apart from the communist North, the way South Korea is independent of communist North Korea. The main problem with that idea, was that South Vietnam was a corrupt and ineptly run government that was unable to defend itself when the USA pulled out in 1973; and S. Vietnam fell in 55 days to an invasion by N. Vietnam in 1975.

What was Vietnam War?

The Vietnam War was a terrible war throughout the 1960's and 1970's. It was located in Vietnam, in southeast Asia. This war was not declared a war until long after it had finished, but was officially a 'police action'. On many levels it tore the US apart: * Veterans were not given recognition * Protesters disrupted colleges and other institutions * Police brutality was rampant * The government withheld vital information from the public * The body count (on both sides) was horrendous
