In the camps run by the Germans, yes. Old people and young children were generally murdered right away. Anybody of an age to work survived the initial sorting. The SS had made precise calculations, down to the last pfennig, how much could be gleaned from working these people to death on a starvation diet, which took an average of nine months, according to German records. Attractive young women might be forced to work in brothels maintained for the comfort of camp personnel (including collaborationist Jews who acted as "truties" , called "Capos") and the German military. After about six weeks these young women were used up by the continuous service, and were sent on to the gas chambers. This policy insured that no mixed Jewish-"Aryan" children could be born. (In civilian life it was a crime for an Aryan to have sex with a Jew). There was absolutely no mercy shown on account of age, either young or old, or gender. The Nazis were very concerned of the effect this iron policy might have on their personnel.
