League of Nations was formed after World War I in order to maintain peace and security, however, it did not have an army, therefore, could not effectively intervene. Moreover, United States did not join League of Nations, what weakened League's position. After withdrawal of Japan from the Leage and its unsuccessful attempts to maintain peace, after start of World War II organization faded.

The United Nations is a highly successful institution and in ares where it has failed it has been more often than not because of interference by countries like the United States and former Soviet Union, who wanted to secure their own interests; instead of looking out for the greater good of the people of the World. It is not in the interest of the United States to leave the United Nations, as that would only reduce their influence in the world; to the benefit of their rival nations.
