Yes. It was the League of Nations, which had basically the same principles, however, did not work effectively. League of Nations was formed after World War I in order to maintain peace and security, however, it did not have an army, therefore, could not effectively intervene. Moreover, United States did not join League of Nations, what weakened League's position. After withdrawal of Japan from the Leage and its unsuccessful attempts to maintain peace, after start of World War II organization faded.
United Nations, formed after WWII has basically same means, however, learned from mistakes of LN.

It is not in the interest of the United States to leave the United Nations, as that would only reduce their influence in the world; to the benefit of their rival nations.
