Have the heads and head gasket checked possible thermostat in backwards
check the temperature control sensor....
Drain the radiator into a container. Remove the upper radiator hose from the engine at the thermostat. Remove the bolts, housing and the thermostat. Clean both surfaces and install the thermostat and gasket. Reinstall the housing and upper hose and top off the coolant.
1. If the engine is running hotter than usual. 2. If the vehicle's temperature gauge is showing the low. 3. If upon inspection you see an open thermostat valve Symptoms like these likely indicate you need a new thermostat
If you are not getting heated air blowing from the heater core and your engine coolant temperature gauge is showing LOW or below normal , ( then YES , IT'S POSSIBLE that your engine cooling thermostat is sticking open )
diagram showing where the thermostat is located
The gauge should be showing a minimum 195 with engine warmed up. I would start with replacing the thermostat.
Drain the radiator into a container. Remove the upper radiator hose from the thermostat housing at the engine. Remove the two bolts and remove the housing and thermostat. Clean both surfaces and install the new thermostat and seal and reinstall the housing. reinstall the radiator hose, tighten the clamps and refill with a 50/50 mixture of antifreeze and water.jd
The side of the thermostat that has a spring showing faces into the engine.
Could be a failed engine coolant temperature sensor. Easy enough to replace and not too expensive.
Yes! Be sure the side of the thermostat with the spring showing faces into the engine.
It is on the back of the engine on the top left and right (above the plugs). for more detail look on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CLIKKXnM3pk is a video showing how to replace.
Eather temp senser or thermostat.
