∙ 11y agoBecause a plant is stationary, it is unable to walk around and looking for water, this is where the roots come in. They grow underground and absorb water through the xylem. Now plants can grow tall, so how does this water and the sugar produced get to the very top of the plant? The stem. The stem contains xylem and phloem allowing water and sugar to move up the plant to get the very tips of the plant. The stem also allows the plant to grow higher up so it can gasther more sunlight which is used in photosynthesis to make glucose (sugar)
