Why does a 1847 seated liberty have the back of a 1874 is this a reissue?

The 1847 Liberty Seated Dollar reverse is not the same as a Trade Dollar dated 1874. The eagles face different directions, Liberty Seated is left and the Trade Dollar is right. Also on the obverse of the Liberty Seated coin the body is facing right with head left and with the Trade Dollar the body and head are both facing left. The only way a 1847 dollar would have the reverse of a 1874 Trade Dollar is if it's counterfeit. I suggest showing it to a collector or dealer for their opinion.

What is the value of a 1796 US silver dollar?

If it is genuine, its retail value as of 06/2014 would range from about $1700 in the lowest grade to as much as $100,000 in uncirculated condition. However many older dollar-sized coins (not just "dollars" themselves) have been extensively counterfeited so you will need to have your coin professionally authenticated.

When were 1798 trade dollars counterfeit?

All 1798 Trade Dollars are counterfeit because the Trade Dollar was not minted till the mid to late 1800s! Counterfeit coins bearing the date of 1798 were most likely made in the later part of the 1900s by Chinese counterfeiters to deceive the casual collector. Usually these coins are not collectable because they are made out of base (non silver) metal and are too modern to have the collectability of contemporary counterfeits which are counterfeits made to circulate at face value. For example, a fake Trade dollar minted in the 1890s to pass it off as $1 would be collectable, a fake Trade dollar minted in 1974 to trick a collector would not.

What is the value of a silver dollar year 1877?

A 1877 dollar is a very interesting dollar. Its called a trade dollar because they were made to be used with trade to China. Ocationally you will find them with Chinese marking in them and they are very well collected by collectors. Sadly trade dollars contain tons and tons of fakes. I would try bringing your trade dolar to a dealer to verify that it is legit. Coin values depend on a couple of values. Mintage of this coin is over 3 million, so its a pretty common coin. With no Chinese markings or any defects this coin has a range of beinging worth anywhere from 110-several thousand dollars depnding on its grade. VG-$110 F-$140 EF- $160 AU- $300 Mint state coins can be worth hundreds or thousands more from grade to grade. If you think your trade dollar is a Mint state coin i would get it verified by a dealer.

How much is an 1875 silver dollar worth?

The only silver dollars dated 1875 are Trade Dollars. Depending on condition they can run from $50-$800 depending on condition if they are genuine. And that if they prove genuine is a big if. Trade dollars are among the most counterfeited coins out there, and some of them are really good copies. First off I would check the dimensions of your coin with what a genuine coin should be like. A coin with a different diameter, thickness or weight may be a tell-tale sign that you have a counterfeit or replica. I would also recommend taking it to a reputable coin dealer to see what he says about it, and, if your coin is in good enough condition to command a higher premium, I would send it to a grading service to be graded because it will help to protect the coin, along with provide an easy way of selling and valuing it should you choose to sell it in the future.

What is value of 1846 Seated Liberty Silver Dollar from Carson City mint?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but if you have an 1882-CC Trade Dollar it's a counterfeit. That particular special issue was struck only in proof at the Philadelphia mint and so would not bear a mint mark. Trade dollars were issued for circulation in the Far East with a special silver content that would let them be accepted as a kind of common currency. In addition they are extremely handsome coins, so many of them were - and continue to be - heavily counterfeited. On the other hand, Morgan dollars were minted at Carson City in that year. They have Miss Liberty's head rather than a full seated image on the obverse and say "One Dollar" rather than "Trade Dollar". On the off chance that's what you have, it would be worth perhaps $100 depending on condition.

Why would someone make a conterfeit 1872 trade dollar espesially that year?

Trade dollars were first issued in 1873. I assume the appeal of having a counterfeit 1872 trade dollar is in the fact that no one in the world has a genuine one? Honestly, I have no idea. Pranking, I guess?

How can you see if a 1900 silver dollar is counterfeit?

Since 1900 isn't a rare date for Morgan dollars it's not highly counterfeited. The best thing to do would be to take it to a local coin collector and get their opinion. They'll be able to give a better answer they can see the coin.
