Franklin does not have a tension adjust on their recliners. Franklin, as with most motion furniture companies, design their furniture with the assumption that the user possesses enough body strength to engage and fold the recliner back in place. Most Franklin recliners come with two types of manual engaging mechanisms: cable and lever. Most people have difficulty with the cable style because the springs in the mechanism are made larger to enable the footrest to kick out with minimal effort. However, I am going to assume that you are having problems closing the footrest. You can try using lighter tension springs, however remember those springs give you the positive footrest engagement and changing that will effect whether or not your footrest remains in the closed position. The best solution is to lubricate all of the pivot points on the mechanism with a silicone spray. That will give you a smoother action, perhaps enough to solve your problem. Additionally, the cable (rip cord style or recessed mount) are spring loaded. Frequently these handles are difficult to engage because the cable is defective or a component in the mechanism is bent.
