First of all check if the pump works. and if you can work out how to operate it. If the water is clean A good trick is to take a clean bottle turn it upside down stick it into the pool as deep as you can reach turn it right way up and let it fill up. Cap it and take it to your local pool shop along with the size and depth of your pool. also take along information on is it a salt water pool, the make of the pump and the make of the filter. You can even take a picture of the equipment to take along. The pools hop will test the water for free and tel you what you need to do with chemicals and if you have the other info I mentioned they will be happy to advise you. The fact is that there is not all that much to looking after a pool but they can be a real pain in the a--e if you loose control. I would like to add that you should inspect the pool enclosure. Make sure the gate is self-closing and self-latching.
