Best Answer

No, the church consisted of small groups that would meet together under no certain name. Just believers in Christ. The formalities of the catholic church developed centuries later.

Roman Catholic AnswerYes, Our Blessed Lord established His Church (which is the Catholic Church) on Saint Peter before He died. There was no other Church until the eleventh century when the Orthodox Church broke away from the Catholic Church. Centuries later there were some minor groups which broke away such as the Old Catholics, and the Society of St. Pius X. Protestantism was started in the sixteenth century, but they lost apostolic succession and thus have no valid priesthood, and no valid sacraments, and thus cannot be called "churches" at all.
