There is considerable doubt whether the Council of Jamnia ever occurred.
At some time in the first century, or soon after, the Septuagint was rejected in favour of the Masoretic textual tradition; and the minim and the nozerim (Christians will be in one, other, or both, of those groups) were excluded.
There is no special reason for supposing that both these developments happened at the same time, or in the same place.
No Club penguin cant get banned from the council
A:John chapter 16 has Jesus prophesy to the disciples of things to come. It has him talk of his imminent death and of the Christians being put out of the synagogues, although this would have been something of an anachronism to the disciples at the time he spoke, in 30-33 CE. The disciples would of course have been concerned about Christians being put out of the Temple, but would have had little interest in synagogues until after the destruction of the Temple in 70 CE. Also, the Jews only banned Christians from the synagogues in the late eighties and early nineties, when the disciples would have long since been dead. The explanation for this puzzling prophecy is that the author of John's Gospel was writing early in the second century, after the Christians really had been put out of the synagogues, which would have been more important and of more immediate interest to this author than the Temple.John 16:2: "They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service."
'The Life of Brian' was banned by Glasgow City Council.
A:It is likely that not many Jews actually converted to Christianity during the apostolic era, but those who did must have continued to worship at the Temple in Jerusalem, which would have involved making animal sacrifices. After the destruction of the Temple, we know they continued to worship in the Jewish synagogues because the mainstream Jews eventually banned them from attending the synagogues in the 90s of the first century and, to prove there were no hidden Christians, required attendees to condemn Christians. This final split meant that Christians could no longer be regarded as Jews and would no longer receive the privileges of Jews under Roman law.
The Christians banned the gladiatorial games, which persisted for quite some time despite this. The chariot races were not banned continued to be popular and were often sponsored by the emperors, who were Christians. The fate of other sports is not known.
in AD 325, the Council of Nicaea was called into cession by Emperor Constantine I to "put together" the bible, due to much "heretic" writing going on around at that time. In this council, both Jewish Christians and Pauline Christians (those converted by st. Paul) agreed to establish the Roman Catholic Church (catholicism) with the pope as its leader. Furthermore, the Jewish Christians then became Orthodox Christians. In other words, before AD 325, there was no organized form of Christianity, just many sects and groups that worshiped accordingly to how they interpreted the scriptures. Many of those would have included Gnostic texts which were banned by the council.
The final act that caused the Jesus movement to completely break from Judaism was the addition of the claim of Jesus's divinity.Note: There would have been no issue with uncircumcised gentiles being in a synagogue. Prior to the advent of Christianity, Judaism was actually a popular religion amongst a large percentage of the Roman population. Many Romans lived as 'Noachides' which is a name given to gentiles who live according to the Noahide laws found in the Tanach (Jewish Bible). These Noachides would have studied with rabbis. Additionally, there is no record of Jews having to condemn Christians in synagogues.
It was used as "background" music during spectacles where Christians were fed to lions.
They aren't banned in very many schools but if they are it is because American Christians have complained for years that the magic is evil and promotes witchcraft among children.
Yes it was banned during the Edo period by Tokugawa Ieyasu. Any christians there were persecuted.
Christians were banned from China in the mid-1700s due to concerns over their spreading influence on Confucian society, as well as political tensions related to Christian involvement in the Chinese Rites controversy. The Qing Emperor issued edicts restricting and eventually prohibiting Christian activities in China during this time.
A:Islam was begun by the Prophet Muhammad, who is believed by Muslims to have received his first revelation from the angel Gabriel in 610 CE. After attracting a few close followers in Mecca, Muhammad had to flee for his life to the city of Medina in 622 CE, the start of the Islamic calendar. Ths period marks the beginning of Islam and thefore its development from both Judaism and Christianity.
