The answer is complicated, for some were taken from their parents, who were then killed, so you could say, that their lives were saved! But it only happened IF the Child looked German, I.E Blond with Blue or GREEN Eyes, and though I know of one case were it was done to SAVE the Child, normally it was done for other reasons, for experiments for example, or if the Child was a Girl, used as a slave. As a rule, it was not very common, and those that were taken in this way, were killed at a later date.

However, some lived! for not all Germans were Nazi's, and many Germans hid Jewish people, in some cases for the whole War, at great risk to themselves, as well as their own Families. Remember! There are Always Good People about no matter what the situation. So there may indeed have been many cases that were never talked about, were Jewish Children were saved from Death for good reasons.

Is a female half Jewish when the father is Jewish and the mother is not?

Under traditional Jewish law, Jewishness is inherited through the mother so that only children of Jewish mothers are considered to be Jewish. As a result, a Jewish man who wants his children to be accepted in a traditional Jewish community will seek to marry only a Jewish woman. Some of the more liberal Jewish communities now accept the children of Jewish fathers as Jewish when they are raised in the Jewish faith. In addition, there have always been processes through which non-Jews an convert to Judaism. This would permit a non-Jewish woman to convert, marry a Jewish man and have their children recognized as Jewish in traditional communities. It also permits the children of a non-Jewish mother to be raised and accepted as Jews even in traditional communities. In Judaism there's no such thing as "half-Jewish."

If your father is a Jew are you really Jewish?

According to Jewish law, a person who is born to a Jewish woman or who converts according to Jewish law, is a Jew. If your father is Jewish but your mother is not, Jewish law does not consider you to be a Jew unless you convert. The reform movement accepts children born to a Jewish man and non-Jewish woman as Jews if they are raised as Jews.
