Milo Butler (Sir Milo Boughton Butler, 1909-1979) died on January 22, 1979. He was Governor-General of the Bahamas from 1973-1979. Milo Butler Jr. (his third son, 1936-2009) died on June 11, 2009 at the age of 72.

It was created by Randolph W. Johnston, in his Bronze Art Foundry in Little Harbour, Abaco, Bahamas. The plaster original is still there and the foundry still cast original Bronze Art.
