I am wondering why this came up under the Histiory of India because the Chippewa Cree have nothing to do with India. An answer to your question depends on what you mean by Chippewa Cree. The people of this reservation, the Rocky Boy Reservation, here in Montana are known as Chippewa-Cree, but then so are some people on the Turtle Mountain Reservation in North Dakota, and so are some of the Little Shells. The simple answer usually given is that the Chippewa -Crees were formed when the Crees under the leadership of Little Bear and the Chippewas under the leadership of Rocky Boy came together on what is known as the Rocky Boy Reservation here in Montana. The thing is that Chippewas and Crees have been associating for hundreds of years before some came together on this reservation. Further Little Bear and Rocky Boy had known each other long before the Rocky Boy Reservation was established in 1916. It is probably the case that Little Bear was actually more Chippewa (Ojibway) than Rocky Boy was. And although Little Bear was perhaps a few months older than Rocky Boy, Rocky Boy was rightly called an Uncle of Little Bear, because one of Rocky boy's wives was a sister of Big Bear, the father of Little Bear. And it is also said that one of Big Bear's wives was a sister of Rocky Boy. further the band of Indians led by Rocky Boy was probably already mixed Chippewa-Cree, and the band led by little Bear probably already mixed Chippewa Cree before they came together on the Rocky Boy Reservation.
