Women being allowed to join the army is a development of the last few decades. Prior to that women, apart from a few exceptions, had not been allowed in the army since the dawn of human history thoughout the world.

∙ 10y agoBesides not being able to meet the physical demands that military training required, the role of the sexes in the ancient world was clearly defined. Woman were honored and respected for their femininity and domestic achievements. When a woman overstepped her accustomed boundaries, she was scoffed at and socially scorned and considered an embarrassment to her husband or father. The aggressive traits needed in a soldier were not acceptable in a woman.
