Australians were actually representing their colonies in the Boer War. The colonies, or states, did not join together under the name of the Commonwealth of Australia until Federation, which occurred on 1 January 1901.

How did the Boer war cause Australians to question British control over Australia?

If it did, it wasn't significant. The Australians lost roughly 1,000 men in the Boer War. If anything the Australians resented the British during WWI (the Great War) especially after Gallipoli...and which Australia lost 60 times as many men in WWI than they did in the Boer War. As an added note, in both of the those wars Australian servicemen were volunteers; unfortunately, the bulk of the Australian fighting men in Vietnam were drafted.

What was australias relationship with britain after the boer war?

Although, Australia became a country in its own right in 1901 the Boer War (1899-1902) was still a war in which Australians fought under British command. However, there were some military commanders who were Australian. The relationship between Australia and Britain was still strong after the Boer War. However, Australia's first war fought as a nation changed the physche of people in general. For example, before federation rivalry between the colonies was quite tense especially between NSW and Vic as boundaries were often changed. As a result the colonies had their own armies such as the Queensland Mounted Infantry and the NSW Lancers. But by the end of the Boer War the troops were no longer fighting on behalf of their state but together as Australians. Towards the end of the war, it became deeply unpopular in Australia as many wanted their men to come home and let the British fight for themselves. But public support was still strong for continued involvement with Britain after the war had ended.

Why were Australians involved in the Boer war?

Because Australia is part of the commenwealth and if I am not mistaken Britain declared war on Africa right? For boer was Australia is part of the commenwealth ACTUALLY, The commonwealth wasnt established till 1902(it was a responce to the war), AFTER the Boer war (1885- 1902) . And it was the Boers (dutch-africaans)who declared war as brithish subjects were slowly 'invading' the non-british run colonies to try their luck with gems and gold. Australia got involved for maybe two reasons....1, we wanted to please the mother country and wanted to ensure that she would be there for us if we ever got invaded, and 2, australians 'army' wasnt able to be trained without what they felt was 'hands on experience' eg. war. so Australia kept sending offers to help but Britan said no, until the british colonys got slaughtered 3 times, then they took all the australians they could get.
