AnswerThe Temple was the principal place of worship for Jews. In fact it had traditionally been considered as the only place where God would hear the prayers of the faithful. An unauthorised temple had been built in Alexandria (Egypt) by diaspora Jews, but was eventually destroyed and not rebuilt.

The sanhedrin was the Jewish religious authority. It could pass and enforce religious laws and impose penalties.

The term 'synagogue' originally referred to groups of people and gradually came to mean a meeting place. Scholars are divided about their role in the first half of the first century. They have evidence of synagogues existing outside Palestine during this period, but no real evidence that they existed within Palestine until after 70 CE, when the Temple was destroyed.
