The Texas Cowgirls were the only female Basketball team to open for NBA games in the 1950's and 1960's. The team played mens rules against male opposition winning 80% of their games. Eddie Gottlieb mogul of the NBA who scheduled all games contacted Texas Cowgirl's owner Dempsey Hovland to open NBA games, The World Famous Texas Cowgirls were also invited by Abe Saperstein originator and owner of the Harlem Globetrotters to play on their tours.
While the Cow Girls may have opened for some NBA games, they did not play against them.
When it came to barnstorming teams, the 2 top teams of women's basketball were The All American Red Heads and Hazel Walkers Arkansas Travelers.
