David, before becoming king, was a shepherd. Concerning the later kings of Judah, their occupation is not stated; but since they were born into the royal family, we may surmise that they didn't need to farm.The kings of the Ten Tribes, on the other hand, were usually not part of a dynasty, so it is not unlikely that some of them were farmers (or artisans) before ascending the throne.
