There has been an ongoing debate on the origins of Egyptians, with the usual result of 'experts' picking a position and arguing staunchly for their own one. Often these arguments are centered on the ruling classes, which are not 'the people' and vary according to the source of the different peoples who take control of any country or region (eg the French are named after the invading Franks, while the main population remained Gauls).
The many theories about Egypt cover Black, Asiatic, Caucasian, Mongolian Tartars, and Dynastic, most of which hang around the rulers rather than the people. While the human race evolved from black Africans, many different peoples came from the line of development, their skin colour reflecting the climate where they settled. All this happened over 100,000 years.
The people of Egypt, living in a sub-tropical environment, had darker skins but would not have been black. The aristocracies changed over the centuries, including a later dynasty of black Nubians, but sticking to the point, a black ruling class did not change the mass of the people, who were suntanned from working their fields in the sun.

The early Egyptologists believed that Nefertiti was a princess from Syria, however, historical research suggests that she was the Egyptian-born daughter of the courtier Ay, brother of Akhenaton's mother, Tiy. This would make her ethnically more Middle-Eastern than Central African "Black."
