Yes, there were two angels present. Matthew mentions one angel speaking but does not say there was only one. John says that two were present. As Norman Geisler says, "John says there were two and wherever there are two there is also one; it never fails! The critic has to add the word 'only' to Matthew's account in order to make it contradictory." [When Critics Ask (Grand Rapids: Baker Books, 1999), p. 365]
Yes, this occurs in Luke's Gospel and, in slightly different circumstances, John. In Mark's Gospel, there was only a young man in the tomb, already present when the women arrived. In Matthew's Gospel, there was clearly only one angel, who arrived at the same time as the women.
There were two ladies, Mary Jesus mother and Mary Magdalene.
According to the Bible, there were at least two guards stationed outside of Jesus' tomb to prevent anyone from stealing his body.
Two Christmas carols that mention angels are "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing" and "Angels We Have Heard on High." Both songs celebrate the role of angels in announcing the birth of Jesus.
A:In Matthew's Gospel, Mary Magdalene first saw Jesus as she returned with the other Mary from finding the tomb empty. They both realised immediately that this was Jesus, falling at his feet and worshipping him (Matthew 28:9). In John's Gospel, Mary Magdalene went alone to the tomb, then returned to tell the others. She was at the tomb some time later, when she first saw Jesus and thought he was the gardener.A:Mary Magdalene thought that Jesus was the gardener. After speaking with two angels about why she was crying and answering that someone had taken her Lord away Jesus appeared to her, but she did not recognize him.
Luke 24:4 And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments. These were angels, proclaiming the risen Christ.
The Cross which Jesus died on, the Tomb, the Last Supper and Jesus Riding into Jerusalem on a Donkey to name but a few.
He is coming in the clouds as the two angels told us in the Bible. - (Acts 1.11)
Matthew's Gospel: An angel came down and sat on the stone, and told the women that Jesus had risen. Mark's Gospel: A young man inside the tomb told the women that Jesus had risen. Luke's Gospel: Two men inside the tomb, presumably angels, told the women that Jesus had risen. John's Gospel: No one told the women that Jesus was risen. Mary Magdalene went to the tomb alone, but when she saw that the stone had been moved, she ran back and told the disciples, apparently without looking inside. After Peter and the 'disciple whom Jesus loved' had visited the tomb and found it empty, Mary saw Jesus himself.
According to the Gospel of Luke, the statement was made by angels who appeared at Jesus' empty tomb following His resurrection.Luke 24:4, 5 - And it happened, as they were greatly perplexed about this, that behold, two men stood by them in shining garments. Then, as they were afraid and bowed their faces to the earth, they said to them, "Why do you seek the living among the dead?" [NKJV]
In Matthew's Gospel, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to the tomb of Jesus. An angel met them outside and said that Jesus was risen. In Mark's Gospel, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Salome went to the tomb of Jesus. The stone was already moved and a young man met them inside the tomb and said that Jesus was risen. In Luke's Gospel, Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James and other women went to the tomb. Two men in shining garments met them inside. In John's Gospel, Mary Magdalene was alone when she went to the tomb early in the morning. Seeing the stone moved aside, she returned immediately without meeting anyone or looking inside. After the disciples came to look and had left, Mary Magdalene was again outside the tomb when she met Jesus, whom she mistook for the gardener.
A:Each of the gospels has a different report as to just who visited the tomb and what occurred: Matthew: Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to the tomb (Matthew 28:1). An angel came down from heaven and told them Jesus was risen.Mark:Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome came to the tomb (Mark 16:1). A young man inside the tomb told them that Jesus was risen.Luke:Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, andother women came to the tomb (Luke 24:10). Two men inside the tomb told them that Jesus was risen.John: OnlyMary Magdalene went to the tomb. Seeing the stone removed, she simply returned and told the apostles.
In Mark's Gospel, there was a young man in the empty tomb, with no suggestion that he was an angel. In Matthew's Gospel, as the women approached, an earthquake moved the stone and an angel came down and sat upon the stone. The story does not say who the angel was. In Luke's Gospel, the stone was already moved and there were two men, apparently angels inside the empty tomb. The story does not say who the angels were. In John's Gospel, the stone was moved, but when the disciple whom Jesus loved looked in, he did not see an angel, nor did Peter when he actually went into the tomb. Some time later, Mary looked into the tomb and saw two angels inside. The story does not say who the angels were.
