In some prisons, prisoners are allowed to keep personal items such as photos, letters, and certain hygiene products in their cells. However, restrictions are often placed on the types and quantities of personal items allowed for safety and security reasons.
There were quite a few personal items that a solider would take to war. They would take wedding bands and pictures for example.
I don't think ANYBODY in their right mind would be for prisoners having any type of luxury items and recreational faciltites. They're in prison to be punished not to be pampered. what i mean is what people do you feel would be for them having those things? it's part of my assignment.
I am not certain of the rules in a prison, but I would not have thought that prisoners would be allowed to go 'on line' while in prison.
Absolutely not. Any personal items in your car would have to be covered by a homeowner or renter's insurance policy. All deductibles would apply separately.

From what I have heard from a person very knowledgeable on the American Civil War, Grant wanted to exchange prisoners because he knew that Union prisoners were dying in Confederate POW camps, but he also knew that it would drag the war out longer. The Confederacy, short of personnel, would have thousands of released prisoners with which to fight the Union again. Despite his personal views, Grant decided that he could not allow a prisoner exchange.
As a general rule, the United States treats its prisoners well. Generally the reason behind this policy is that you want to encourage your enemy to surrender (German soldiers actually fought in the Last Days of WWII to get to the West to surrender to the West). However, as in all wars, treatment of prisoners was not always humane, either then or now. You have to remember that the media would never have been allowed to air allegations of abuse against German prisoners as has happened in the case of Abu Ghraib.
