There is a problem with either the low voltage(24volts) coming from the t-stat or the contactor on the outside unit.Be advised that you have separate breakers for the outside unit that may be tripped or bad. something else to consider your compressor (which is in the outdoor unit) has a thermal overload that cuts everything off when the compressor gets to hot i.e it could be bad ,not enough refrigerant,or low on oil the compressor is a sealed unit so you cannot check the oil Also 9 times out of 10 this is the capacitor. The main disconnect for the outside unit is mounted on the house. Just follow the main big wire from the unit to the house. There is usually a handle in the shape of a "T". Pull this out. Open the unit up, and look behind the motor(closest to the house). Look for a small square black box or a small round cylinder. This should have two wires connected to it, mark the wires so you know where they came from when it's time to put the new one on. Disconnect the capacitor. Now go get your replacement part and install in reverse order. Note: Like stated above these units usually have two power sources or breakers if you will. It's a good idea to diconnect any and all possible power on anything electrical BEFORE you ever open anything up. Hope this helps good luck.

Where is the coil on an air conditioner?

There are 2 coils. 1 inside the indoor air handler or furnace and 1 outside on your condenser in the yard.

Can you plug your natural gas furnace into a 120 volt receptacle?

The furnace can be but it is not a good idea. Safety code requires a disconnect switch outside the area where the furnace is situated. This switch is used for an emergency shut down in case something electrically goes wrong with the furnace. In modern homes these furnaces are wired to a dedicated 120 volt circuit from the distribution panel. From the panel, the circuit is routed to the safety switch. From the safety switch, the circuit then continues to the furnace load.

How do you install split system air conditioning?

Exactly what I am doing now. My furnace is old and ineffiecient so I bought a new, ineffiecient furnace. (80%) natuaral gas. I also bought a cooling coil that fits on top (upflow furnace) of the furnace. I bought a condensing unit that will go outside and be wired to the furnace and thermostat and connected to the coil with refriderant lines. All of this was less than half of what an installer quoted for just a new furnace! The new furnace is the exact dimensions of the old, so it is a plug and play situation. However, I need to have a licensed plumber make the connections, which then need to be inspected by the town. I have an EPA 608 certification to make the AC connections, but that must be inspected as well. I have to run a whole new circuit (220V) to the wall where the outside unit will sit. So for less than $2,000 I will replace my old junky furnace for a new split system furnace/AC system. I also replaced my old thermostat for a new digital programable thermostat for $49. This should save $ as you can program less heat or cool when everyone is at work.

Is 15 amp breaker enough for a gas furnace?

Yes. It should be a dedicated circuit from the distribution panel. There should also be an emergence shut off switch outside of the furnace area . This switch allows you to shut the furnace down from a remote area if a malfunction occurs at the furnace.

Were to fill the ac?

Outside at the condenser.

What is the code regulation for the conduit that the electrical wire goes through when going to the switch on a furnace?

The furnace control switch can be located on the outside of the furnace room. This is in case of an emergency with the furnace, no one has to enter the furnace room to isolate the furnace from its power supply. Code rule from the CEC (Canadian Electrical Code) 26-806 - 6 - The disconnecting means shall be permitted to be a branch circuit breaker at the distribution panel board, provided that the panel board is located between the furnace and the point of entry to the area where the furnace is located. 7 - Where a separate switch is required, due to the unsuitable location of the branch circuit breaker, it shall (a) not be located on the furnace in a location that can be reached only by passing close to the furnace; and (b) be marked to indicate the equipment it controls.

How do you turn off the ac?

you can simply select "off" on the thermostat to stop operation; however, if you are going to service the ac, the main power cut-off will be within arms reach of the condenser usually located outside .

How much would one expect to pay for an outside wood furnace?

One would expect to pay thousands of dollars for an outside wood furnace. It depends on what type of material was used to create the furnace and who was selling it.
