This law requires employers to treat pregnant employees the same as other employees who are similar in their ability or inability to work. Additionally, the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) provides eligible employees with unpaid, job-protected leave for certain family and medical reasons, including pregnancy. Individual state laws may also offer additional protections for pregnant workers.
The Pregnancy Discrimination Act (PDA) provides protection against discrimination in the form of adverse employment actions (i.e. firing, lower pay, refusal to hire) to employees or applicants who are pregnant or affected by pregnancy-related conditions.
