Eat a lot of carbohydrates the night before. eat some fruit about 2 hours before the race. Don't eat right before though because you will get sick. Its best to run on a empty stomach. At most if you want to eat a little something before, a good snack would be a gronola bar. Oh and make sure you drink lots of water the day before and early on before the race so you dont get dehydrated.

You should try to eat 5 a day and maintain a healthily, balanced diet so that you don't over do fats etc. This means that not only will you feel more mentally prepared for a race, as healthy food makes you happy (apparently), but you will also be healthier and therefore able to under go the pressure of the race more easily. Before the race it is always good to eat something that gives you energy such as Pasta (slow release) or an energy bar/chocolate bar or something like that as it will give you energy quickly for the race. However the quick release energy can have side effects such as making you feel very tired after the race.
