Ares was associated with warfare and Sparta was known for its militaristic culture, so he likely appreciated the military strength and prowess of the United States. He may have seen similarities in the warrior spirit and combat capabilities between the two societies.
Ares was not widely worshiped in Ancient Greece, save in Sparta, where he was viewed second only to Athena (the city's patron god). The Spartans built their society on the principals of war, and it would have been a good place for the god of war to reside.

Ares
God of War Ares.

No; Ares -the god of war - would have been one of the gods the Spartan Army would have worshiped.
Most Greeks did not like his bloodthirst. But he was venerated in Sparta.
Thrace was the birthplace and hometown of Ares, the Greek god of war. He also lived in Mount Olympus, Mani, Sparta, Macedonia, and Thebes.
It was not bad, but most people wanted to be warriors. Every day in Sparta people had to be brave. I believe they had the inspiration from Ares God of War.
