Um, there's quite a lot of dates that lead to the Revolutionary War...
Sugar Act (1764), Stamp Act (1765), Townshend Act (1767), Tea Act (1773), all of which were designed by Parliament to tax the colonies, which the colonies reacted rather strongly, Coercive Acts (1774), which led to the Boston Port Harbour being closed and martial law in Massachusetts after the Boston Tea Party, the Prohibitory Act, in which King George III declared the colonies to be in rebellion, and, of course, the 1st and 2nd Continental Congress, leading to the actual Declaration of Independence
Of course, that is just leading up to the war. During the war there was Saratoga, which gave legitimacy to the colonies' revolution, and made France join the war on their side, lending vital their vital navy and army, the surrender of Burgoyne in Albay, and the surrender of Cornwallis in York. Then the Treaty of Paris in 1783 occurred, in which Britain recognised America as a legitimate country.
Hope this helps!

The British Commonwealth, now known as the Commonwealth of Nations, includes countries that were formerly part of the British Empire. Some notable member countries and their capitals include India (New Delhi, independence in 1947), Canada (Ottawa, independence in 1867), Australia (Canberra, independence in 1901), and Nigeria (Abuja, independence in 1960). Each country has its own unique path to independence, often marked by significant historical events. The Commonwealth fosters cooperation and unity among its member states despite their diverse histories.
United States celebrates its independence day on July 4th. Mexico and Central America have their independence day on September 15th (on Sept. 16th a military parade is carried in Mexico). The British Colonies in America, represented by the Continental Congress, unilaterally declared their independence from the British government on July 4, 1776. Not surprisingly, the British did not accept that declaration and used military force to suppress the rebellion. The war dragged on for years. Ultimately, the British were unsuccessful. The Revolutionary War ended with the surrender of Lord Cornwallis at Yorktown, Virginia, October 19, 1781. The Kingdom of Great Britain formally recognized the United States of America as an independent country with the Treaty of Paris, September 3, 1783.Any one of those three dates could reasonably be accepted as the date upon which the United States became independent. Traditionally, however, we tend to recognize the earliest date, July 4, 1776, since it was the date when we said we were independent (even though no one else agreed with us, at the time).
