You have to remove the carpet material in the trunk and remove the screw caps etc. and the lights come out.
if u want to know how to chang brake light in the trunk theres the rug pull it back and u will find the back of the tail lights twist the light socket n it will come out
Open the trunk and pull the carpeting back from the rear lights and there are 3 or 4 twist nuts that you take off and the light will come out, do this on both sides.
If by 'controller' you mean the switch that makes the brake lights come on, it is not in the trunk. It is located underneath the dashboard, next to the brake pedal.
Check and see if the interior lights come on when you open each door. open one if lights come on shut it and wait for the lights to go off and then open another until you open all the doors. if the lights don't come on with one of the doors it will be a bad door switch on that door. if lights come on on all doors it may be the trunk. check and see if you have a trunk open warning displayed on the information center on the instrument panel. if so the car thinks the trunk is open and alarm won't set.
The tail lights are one piece, the lens does not come off. You remove the assemblies by removing retainers form inside the trunk.
Check the wire which supplies energy for tail lights (the junction between the trunk and the car body). If it's broken it will cause the check engine come on.
The switch in the trunk that is on the locking mechanism itself needs adjusted or if you don't have time to mess with it really just disconnect the wire going to it the trunk light wont come on until you hook it back up though that little light on the dash will run your battery dead because its really telling you that the big one in the trunk is on too.
You do not need mercury. Just install a door jam switch in the trunk wired into a light in the cat so that when the trunk is open a light will come on in the vehicle.
Lift up the trunk and next to the rear light cover you want to take off, where the trunk comes down there are 2 screws. remove them. take the carpet off on the wall in the trunk opposite to the rear light cover. in the middle of that back panelthere is a nut connected to a bolt. remove it. the rear light cover should come off. where the lights go into the cover they are labeled for what their purpose is and what color the bulb. to remove the bulb just twist the bulb holder and it should come out of the light cap. reassemble the parts in reverse order
Open your trunk. You will see 4 or 5 bolts coming thru the frame of the trunk. Take the nuts off those bolts from the inside of your trunk and the entire mount will come off. Take the wires running to the back of the light and turn counterclockwise. The bulb will come out of the housing. Take the bulb out and replace. Put everything back together and you are finished.
