Britain's colonies largely received from Britain the concepts of parliamentary democracy, limited monarchy, civil rights, the rule of law and an independent Judiciary. These were not always or uniformly applied during or after the colonial period, but they were largely incorporated into post-colonial constitutions and political philosophy.
